One-Eyed "Snaggle-Puss" Kitty's Humans Think He's Purrfect

One-Eyed "Snaggle-Puss" Kitty's Humans Think He's Purrfect

It's hard to believe that anyone could look at this cat's sweet little face and then give him away.  But that's exactly how Dizzy the one-eyed, snaggled-toothed kitty ended up, abandoned as an adult along with his sis-fur, at Happy Cats Haven in Colorado Springs, in June 2015.

"We found him through Petfinder," says his human mom, Melanie, "and just fell in love with his face."

Based on exams, Dizzy is somewhere between 5 and 7 years old."We've decided he's 6, and we gave an April birthday," Melanie tells HiHomer.  "He and his sister were at Happy Cats for 2 or 3 months when we adopted them.I mostly remember being surprised at how long they'd been there."

Unfortunately, it's never surprising to learn that a special-needs cat has been abandoned or returned to a shelter, simply for being different.  As far as Dizzy's adoring humans slaves—Melanie and her husband Sal—are concerned, however, Dizzy is absolutely purrfect.

"We don't have much information about him as a kitten," Melanie says. "His vet thinks he was born that way. His skull is misshapen, and his brain 'quirks' are likely related to it."

But having only one eye, an adorable snaggle-tooth, and a sealed left nostril aren't the only things that make Dizzy a unique original.

"He often circles, always clockwise, as a sort of tic," Melanie reports.  "He also 'tracks.' It looks like a typewriter or lawn sprinkler motion. He goes into 'crazy mode' often. His eye becomes as big as a saucer, and that's when we know he wants to play."

Dizzy's more than just a pretty face, however.  He's also chock-full of purrsonality!

"Most people absolutely love him. People that had only seen pictures first and then meet him are always surprised by how sweet he is."

"His personality is honestly better than any cat I've ever met," Melanie enthuses. "He loves his catnip banana, and he likes catching it when we toss it to him.  He loves pepperoni, but only cooked on a pizza (he'll steal them right off the pizza). The only other people food he likes is turkey."

"He also likes fighting with his sister, and they take turns being the aggressor. She is a long haired tortie that was abandoned with him. Her name was Kalico, but we renamed her P2D2.  We think she and Dizzy are about the same age."

Magic The 2-Legged Cat Loves His Rescuers, His Best Buddy Trucker, And Being An Ins-purr-ation

Magic The 2-Legged Cat Loves His Rescuers, His Best Buddy Trucker, And Being An Ins-purr-ation

Like any healthy young cat, 2-year-old Magic can seem like a rocketing blur of energy at times.  "He's our grey speedster boy!" enthuses Jacci Moss, director of Friends of Felines Rescue Center in Defiance, OH.  "He knows many volunteers carry an extra pom-pom toy in their pockets, and he'll run up to them with those expectant eyes of his, waiting for the ball to be tossed for him to chase."

Magic's love for humans and zest for life would make him special no matter what. What makes him extraordinary, however, is that he does all this and more—on only two legs.

Magic first came to FFRC as a 6-week-old foundling back in January 2015.  Originally found by a shelter in Tennessee, FFRC was asked to help out due to Magic's severe leg deformities.

"We drove down to get him and returned already in love with this little boy," recalls Jacci in an interview with HiHomer.  "Magic was so very tiny, just 14 ounces.Slowly but surely he started gaining weight, and his personality blossomed!"

After the usual round of kitten-hood vet visits, shots, and de-worming, FFRC turned their attention to the most important issue—Magic's hind legs, which were so deformed they resembled a pretzel.

"Magic's rear legs caused him a lot of trouble, especially when he had to potty," says Jacci.  They were removed in two separate surgeries in April 2015.  A later surgery removed Magic's tail, which he could no longer move and was also interfering with his litter-box use.

"He went from having to handle those rear legs that caused him pain to a zooming kitten!" Jacci recalls.

Magic may have had a difficult start in life, but you'd never know it to see the happy 2-year-old today.  "Magic is a wonder," Jacci says. "He loves everyone.

"He also loves to race!  Some of his cat buddies will start in one room and race throughout the Rescue Center.  It doesn't matter that he only has his front legs—he generally is the winner! He sits straight up and cranks those front legs in motion full speed ahead, with his head held high!  He knows he can win!"

Aside from all the human affection and cuddles Magic receives on a daily basis, he also has a best kitty-friend—another 2-legged boy named Trucker.

"They are very close in age and frequently can be seen snoozing and playing together," Jacci tells us. "There is a real connection between these two cats. They're like Velcro."

It's when she talks about rescuing special-needs cats that Jacci truly sounds passionate.  "Some of our cats have disabilities. All of our cats have cat-abilities," she says. "It's amazing what can happen. Cats just figure things out---how can they handle this? How can they accomplish that desire to do something? They are cats and can simply do it!"

"They don't waste time feeling sorry for themselves," she concludes."They simply get on with the act of living and have a whole lot of fun doing it! They are amazing. In their heads, they are fine and dandy, just as they are!"

In ours too, Jacci!

Senior Kitty With Only 2 Teeth Never Knew Love Until This Woman Saved Him

Senior Kitty With Only 2 Teeth Never Knew Love Until This Woman Saved Him

"I have a soft spot for senior animals," says Taylor of The Fancy Farm Girls of Honey Locust Hills. "And also the underdog—or cat."

Lots of people talk, but it takes a true Homer's Hero to act—and when Steve, a toothless, 12-year-old ginger, crossed Taylor's path, it was his lucky day.

Taylor found Steve three months ago behind a dumpster at an IGA store, a place where people in the area tend to dump cats.  The women who work at the store feed the kitties and have them neutered/spayed, but it was clear that Steve needed extra attention.

For one thing, he had only two teeth in his whole mouth.

"He came to us pretty beaten up, so we assume that his experience with the other dumpster cats was not a positive one," Taylor recalls in an interview with HiHomer.  He also suffered from an eye infection so bad, she thought the eye might have to be removed—although, with proper medical care, it seems to have cleared up for now.

Taylor quickly installed Steve on her 80-acre working farm in lower Michigan, which she affectionately refers to as "The Island of Misfit Toys."

"We have a kitty named Lip who needed his tail amputated due to injury," she tells HiHomer, "a dog with frog legs found alongside the road in the middle of winter, a Pyrenees with PTSD, and a one-eyed senior poodle, among others."

Steve has free rein of the farm but chooses not to bunk with Taylors other rescue cats Taylor has, although he's already formed a tight bond with Taylor and her daughter.

When he wants some alone time, Steve settles in for a nap in the little "apartment" Taylor and her husband built for him, where he can curl up in a heated cat bed on those brisk winter afternoons.

Because Steve is essentially toothless, with only two teeth left, Taylor feeds him a diet of wet senior cat food soaked in bone broth.

Steve likes to eat his food straight out of the can or from a small bowl, using his paw like a spoon.

Steve's life may not always have been easy, but he appears to be ready to head into his golden years enjoying all the comforts of food, warmth, and love a kitty can have.  Best of all, he continues the proud tradition of rescuing "unadoptable" animals that Taylor and her family have established.

"Somebody," she says, "has to give special-needs animals a voice."
