Lots of schools have mascots, but very few have mascots this adorable and purrfectly engaged with everyday campus life. Meet Campus Cat of Bavaria's University of Augsburg!
The super-friendly ginger first visited the campus when she was about a year old--and, once she discovered the cuddles galore awaiting him among the student body, she's been back every day since. "It became almost a routine and took away the stress from everyone a bit," a student said.
Studies have confirmed that having a cat--or even just petting one--can lower blood pressure, relieves stress, and confer numerous other health benefits. The students at Augsburg are no exception, and their beloved feline friend is especially welcome to help relieve the tension around exam time.
Campus Cat's favorite hangout is the library (and if there's anything better than the combination of cats and books, we haven't found it yet!), but she loves to laze in the sun as well, and will generally go wherever she's needed.
Her furever home is with a family living close to campus, and her owner is well known to university staff. So this lucky kitty gets lots of love all the time--whether she's in her own backyard or snuggling up to the student body.
Her real name is known only to her off-campus human family, but some students have taken to calling her "Sammy."
As you can see, Sammy has become something of a self-appointed academic adviser, never shying away from group projects or last-minute papers!
She's also always on call to do the very best thing our cats do for us--offer a sympathetic ear and cuddle up for moral support.
Plus, she's pawsome at keeping coats warm during those long Bavarian winters!
Nobody ever knows what the future will bring--but for one gregarious German kitty, we predict plenty of sunshine and purrs in the years to come.
