A lost and injured hiker in the Swiss Alps found his way safely home thanks to a sweet cat who showed him the way. Perhaps the feline is part St. Bernard?
"It was the end of ski season when I got to Lauterbrunnen, so the lifts weren't working and some of the trails were closed," reddit user sc4s2cg said. "I actually got 'lost' in the surrounding mountains."
Following a roundabout trail, the hiker eventually made it to the top and decided to follow a train track into the middle of a "totally empty town."
"I was checking my map to see how I can get back to the hostel, and the only official way down was through a trail that was closed. And that's how I met that handsome cat."
The plucky puss came over to greet the hiker as he took a short break, eating a snack and resting his sprained ankle.
"As soon as I got up she started guiding me along some path," he said. "She seemed super friendly considering I was a total stranger, must be used to the tourist crowd that comes annually in that region."
"This was the only cat I saw… She wasn't really randomly wandering the mountains, rather I think she lives in [Gimmelwald] the town I was in."
"She was walking and kept looking at me to follow, led me straight to the path that would take me back down to the valley."
The hiker quickly grabbed his camera so he could record the experience to share with others.

"We actually separated right at the end of that video," he said. "I had to get down, and she had a territory to protect!"
Apparently, this sweet tuxedo kitty is something of a local ambassador, known to many other reddit users who'd visited the area. starspace1 said: "The same cat went hiking with me and my friend 3 months ago!"
According to another reddit user, the cat belongs to a hostel in the village and adores tourists.
As a recent guest at Gimmelwald's Mountain Hostel (the village's only inn), I can confirm that this tuxie and her bro-fur, Shadow, like to give guests the purrsonal touch!
"I was basically calling her adorable, asking rhetorical questions like 'are you coming?' wondering where she was taking me," the hiker concluded. "It's one of my best memories of my trip for sure!"
