A kitten was huddled in the middle of the road—alone and defenseless. Many people drove by without caring. But one kind-hearted couple pulled their car over and picked the kitten up. They quickly realized, however, that this "kitten" was no ordinary cat. With her short tail and feisty ways, it was soon apparent that she was a bobcat.
It's not known how the baby bobcat came to be separated from her mom. But the Good Samaritans who found her brought her to their local vet, who in turn contacted Big Cat Rescuein Tampa, Florida.
Adorable as she is, this bobcat kitten has proven to be quite a handful—which is a good thing, according to a representative from Big Cat Rescue. Since the plan is to release her back into the wild once she's strong, enough, it could be dangerous for her to get too comfortable with human handling.
The kitten appears to be in good shape, other than being a little underweight. It's thought that human encroachment into the bobcats' natural habitat may be the reason why this bobcat was separated from her mama.
Rescuers have named her Spirit Feather in tribute to BCR's beloved Little Feather, who recently crossed the bridge at the ripe old age of 23.
Spirit Feather will stay at Big Cat Rescue for about three months, then she will be re-released into the wild.
For now, Spirit Feather naps in comfort with her favorite stuffed squirrely, and has plenty of cardboard boxes to play with.
