One heroic man spent 7 hours digging with his bare hands through piles of splintered wood and rusted steel—all to save a litter of tiny newborn kittens tossed into a Dumpster.
Unfortunately, the mama cat had chosen to give birth in a cardboard box that was tossed away. The entire wee family might have faced a grim fate if not for a man named Cliff, who happened to be passing by and heard their faint cries.
"They got dumped in the dumpster, then there was wood dumped on top," Cliff told Love Meow.
With strong hands and a stronger heart, Cliff spent hours digging through dangerous refuse to rescue the kittens. They were so young that their eyes just opened.
After listening carefully to determine where, exactly, the cries were coming from, he got down to digging.
The first rescue was a tiny ball of gray fluff, who Cliff carefully placed in his pocket to keep the baby warm.

He kept digging to find the others.
After hours of rummaging, he got all the kittens out of the Dumpster.
Kittens this young need round-the-clock care from an experienced foster.
After a lot of searching the Homer's Heroes at Watching Over Whiskers (Springfield, Missouri) volunteered to take the kittens. Everybody got baths, plentiful noms, and the 24/7 TLC they needed to thrive.
"They got milk all over each other… they were so hungry," the rescue group said.
Two of the smallest kittens needed a real kitty mama to keep them going—so Roxy, a sweet nursing rescue kitty, is giving them milk, warmth, and love.
It's hard to imagine a rougher start in life for this darling fur family! But clearly their luck has changed—and then some. They continue to thrive in foster care until they grow strong enough for the loving forever homes they deserve.
These kittens may have been born under a dark cloud—but now they have nothing but blue skies and new adventures ahead of them.
