Saying good-bye to a beloved fur friend is always hard. But it also gives us a beautiful opportunity to look back on a life together lived in full—all the smiles, sorrows, and special moments that made our time with our fur kids unique and unforgettable.
We've seldom seen a lovelier tribute to that truth than this one, showing a senior rescue kitty named Andrew with his humans on their final car ride together.
A Reddit user recently shared the touching image online, describing how Andrew, even in his final moments, seemed to sense their sadness and offer them comfort as they made the painful decision to let him go.
"He held our hands on his last trip to the vet. Little Andrew was much stronger than his mom and I," abernha3 wrote. "He was 15 and a half and loved everyone, but just got old and sick over the last year. He purred everyday of his life and when he lost that, I knew it was time. Always sad to lose a friend."
Rescue cats seem to share an especially close bond with the humans who rescued them. Other Reddit users shared their own memories.
Mortimer and his best friend grew up together.
"First picture ever taken of us on the left, last ever on the right :("
Cassie the cat. "We still miss her. Here are the first and last photos I ever took of her."
Mopsy and the man who loved him, best furiends forever.
