Mallomar the floofy Persian was 10 years old when someone left him to fend for himself in a Dumpster. The senior kitty, unused to life on the streets, wasted away to a skeletal 4 pounds before rescue finally arrived.
Initially taken to New York's Animal Control Center, Mallomar was quickly pulled by the Homer's Heroes at no-kill JerseyCats Rescue and taken to the vet straight away.
His doctor's main concern: Mallomar wasn't gaining weight.
Placed in a foster home with a rescuer named Jenni, Mallomar proved to be a fussy eater at first. But Jenni realized that Mallomar started salivating like crazy when he smelled "people food," and a licking love affair was born.
"Making sure he eats enough is my number one priority," Jenni—who has adopted Mallomar permanently—tells HiHomer. "He loves his dry food, but he can be picky when it comes to his wet food. That being said, he continues to gain weight and his fur is filling in nicely."
Mallomar has already gained 3 pounds—nearly doubling his weight since his rescue!
Jenni now documents Mallomar's gastronomic adventures on his popular Instagram page.
From rags to riches (and pizza…and burgers), Mallomar's life is filled with all the good food, warm cuddles, and life-long security every cat deserves. As for Jenni: "I feel like I won the cat adoption lottery with him. I couldn't have asked for a sweeter guy."
