When Matt found a tiny, weeks-old kitten crawling by himself near a busy street—either abandoned by his mother or dumped by an uncaring human—he knew he couldn't just leave the little guy there to fend for himself. As soon as Matt picked the kitten up and cradled him in his arms, the kitten gave him a look of sheer gratitude.
It was a look—and a moment—that would change both their lives. "My sister and brother-in-law rescued a kitten. Look at how happy he is!" Matt's sister-in-law Zilara wrote on Instagram.
This sweet kitten had obviously been waiting a long time to feel safe. As soon as he knew he was in secure, loving arms, he fell asleep—and couldn't be awakened for more than an hour.
Matt didn't have the heart to disturb the kitten, so he sat in the truck listening to music while the baby snoozed—and snored."I found a stray that snores as loud as a train!" Matt informed his family when he got home.
The next day, Matt brought the kitten to the vet for an exam and much-needed flea dip. The kitten purred the whole time.
Nearly a year later, Kaya (as Matt named him) is a happy, healthy one-year-old, living joyfully with Matt and Matt's other rescue cat. Kaya and Matt still love hanging out together for cuddles and laughs.
