When George the dog lost his best friend of 12 years, a Labrador named Blackie, he grew so depressed and despondent that his humans weren't sure he'd survive the heartbreak, says owner Jacquie Litton. But then a few days ago—almost exactly 2 years to the day since Blackie's passing—a duck unexpectedly turned up on the porch of George's Tennessee home. From that moment on, things turned around for the lonely George.

The feathered fowl seemed to sense George's need for comfort, and was ready, willing, and able to offer it. "We have no idea where this duck came from but he sure does love George and since the duck has arrived George has not cried one time," Litton wrote on Facebook. "It is strange for a duck to just appear at our house and be attached to your dog and even more strangely the anniversary week of Blackie's passing."
George and the duck bonded instantly.
George has even granted the duck use of his own bed.In only a few days, the two have become inseparable."Since the duck has showed up, [George] has been fine," Litton told news station WKOW. "He's not wanted in the house. He's not whined. He's not looking sad."
Someone warm to curl up with.
