Elliot is a gorgeous, affectionate, nine-year-old tabby who arrived at the Cats Protection center in Haywards Heath, UK over two months ago—abandoned by his family because of an allergic condition that causes him to sneeze constantly.
"He is a heavy sneezer," the center's deputy manager, Tania Marsh, told the Independent, "so when we come in to check on him in the morning we do have to clean his glass quite thoroughly. It's like he has bad cold."
She goes on to add that Elliot is incredibly affectionate, noting that, "He's a lovely boy," who can't stop cuddling with shelter staff.
After a quick examination, Elliot was diagnosed with chronic rhinitis, which basically means inflammation and swelling of the mucous membrane of the nose. It causes congestion, a runny nose, and lots of sneezing!
"Elliot is definitely very snuffly and his condition means he has some damage to the bones in his nose," says Tania.
Tania thinks that Elliot's sneeziness—in addition to the fact that, at nine years old, Elliot is definitely a senior kitty—is likely putting off potential adopters for this sweet, gentle, big-hearted boy.
"It's a shame as he would make a lovely pet. He is a happy, affectionate chap." She adds, "Cats like Elliot deserve a safe, warm home as much as any other cat, and we hope we can find a new owner for him soon."
Cats with long-term or chronic conditions can be a daunting prospect for potential adopters. They often worry about the cost of treatment and whether they can give these cats all the care and attention they need.
However, with just a little bit of TLC, Elliot's condition is very manageable. Paws crossed that he finds a new home soon!
