Think of it as Disneyland for cat lovers! The Lanai Cat Sanctuary in beautiful Hawaii has become a tourist destination in its own right—a haven where ailurophiles from all over the world can come and hang out with the nearly 500 rescue cats who are available for foster, adoption, or just to cuddle with travel-weary visitors.
At the forefront of both cat protection and environmental conservation—and proof that the two goals can exist simultaneously (some naysayers have argued that cats destroy natural habitats)—the sanctuary offers its cage-free kitties 25,000 square feet of preserved habitat in which to roam. A true no-kill shelter, cats at LCS are never euthanized due to lack of space or the length of time they've spent at the sanctuary. If you'd like to make a visit yourself, it's open to the public between 10am and 3pm every day. We're booking our plane ticket now!
