Valentin Gruener's lifelong dream was to rescue animals all over the world, which is why he eventually founded the Modisa Wildlife Project to protect and preserve African lions. So when he came upon a weeks-old female lion cub, attacked by her pride and left for dead, he didn't hesitate before rescuing the wee girl and giving her the care she needed to recover from her injuries. Gruener knew that the tiny lion cub, whom he named Sigra, was destined to roam free someday. So he raised her with minimal contact with himself and none from other humans, so that she could one day take her place on a Botswana preserve and live the life she was meant to live. Still, Sigra never forgot the kindness of the man who saved her--as this video of their reunion, years later, clearly shows. Even animals know a hero when they see one--and all animals are capable of loving heroes with their whole hearts.
