You've heard the story before—a stray kitten approaches a house and meows for help (or attention, perhaps?) until someone emerges to check out the ruckus. But in this latest wrinkle on an ages-old story, which happened to Hannah in West Virginia, the kitten in question was accompanied by his adorable litter-mate sister!
"My boyfriend was outside when a kitten ran up to him from the alley next to our house. He was meowing loudly, covered in dirt and fleas," Hannah reported to Love Meow, describing how she came outside and saw the kitten crying and purring at her nonstop.
As she scooped him up and turned to head back into the house, she heard the sound of four more of little paws coming from behind her.
"I turned around, and noticed his sister coming my way, top speed. I picked her up and brought them both inside," said Hannah.
The kittens, which Hannah named Theon and Yara (after the Iron Island siblings of Game of Thrones fame) were bought inside by Hannah and her boyfriend, who started washing them and tried to get rid of the fleas. Following the baths, they gave the kittens some food and a warm bed.
Yara took to the TLC right away and began to perk up, but Theon the brother took more time.
Hannah wrapped him in a towel, made sure he was warm and continually kept him hydrated with fluids.
"I put sugar syrup on his gums every couple minutes. After about 45 minutes, he was up and at it. Needless to say, I sobbed my eyes out," Hannah says. "He was purring so loudly the moment I picked him up. Even at his weakest last night, he had a big purr." The next morning, the kittens continued to grow stronger began to eat with ever more zeal.
"It has been a rollercoaster, to say the least. At first, I thought Yara wouldn't make it through the night. Then Theon took a nosedive at full speed. Now they're both up and at it, eating and being kittens," Hannah reports. "[Theon] is meowing and climbing me like a tree. Yara continues to eat like she's never seen food before."
As Theon and Yara continued to receive round-the-clock care in the comfort of a loving home, Hannah's dog, Uncle Bruce, also got in on the action.
"Uncle Bruce is keeping a watchful eye over them, not leaving their sides," announced Hannah.
From hunger, dirt and fleas on one to day to full bellies, cleanliness and health on the next. Not bad!
